Hate to ask

Postby Cstrock » Wed Dec 09, 2020 3:44 pm

Super c or c question. Changed the oil and filter. Where and how does the gasket go that supposed to go between the casing and the “cone”. It’s to big to go inside and the gasket is to small to go outside. Plus I don’t know what outside would do. Does the cone sit on it al the way around. ???????

It should fit into the groove and the bell sits on top of it. I found that the groove was filled with decades old petrified gaskets to the point where it appeared as though there was no groove. Check out the groove...it is at least 3/16" deep.

Ok so the bell or cone sits on top. That’s gonna be hard to line up the motor side.

Not if you clean all the old bits out of the groove. The new gasket goes in the groove and can't get out of line.

Here is a video, at around 2:45 he begins to remove the old gasket. As mentioned be sure you get the old gasket out and clean the groove. And when putting in the new gasket, be sure it's seated all the way around. The filter housing can pinch the gasket if the gasket isn't seated all the way around in the groove and you will have a leak.

As I experienced, clean out the groove, the gasket fits in the groove and the bell sits on the gasket. If the groove is clean and it is the right gasket, the bell sits ever so slightly in the groove as well. The other part is to make sure you have a good crush washer on the long bolt at the top. My bell is slightly out of kilter so I had to put an O ring under the washer to seal it off.

All this and more is covered in the Operator's Manual.

At which point you can see his elbow and hear that he is saying something. He evidently never pulled the drain plug under the filter either.

Ok got it. The old gasket looked like the metal. Had to pry it out. Plus it was red. I saw it in the manual but it didn’t make sense till I started prying at it
