seems we're two peas in a Pod. Hahahaaa
I was actually pretty happy till I tripped and fell. I spent most of an hour scrubbing that head with MM oil and a green scotch brite pad.

I expect that's where you are at.
I still planned on cleaning everything up, throwing in a gasket set and putting it back together. Then this happened while we were trying to un-stick the rings.......did that, all by myself, with about 15 students watching. It was quite a day.

So what's the plan now? Can you get a single piston maybe?

Yeah but I'm going ahead and replacing them all. Had to have the crank polished anyway so might as well. I'm going to try it without a valve job, just clean and lap.

Re: Stuck Motor
I assume you split your tractor. If you wouldn't mind, could you snap a few picture. I'd like to see what you are using as stands. I've been trying to figure out what I'm going to do. Of course my setup is different cause I'm outside in the dirt. I sure wish I had an inside place with a cement floor, but I'm sure it's been done before.

Re: Stuck Motor
Having seen them used earlier by forum members, I used a trailer jack where I removed the swivel, and bolted it to a piece of steel. This hollow one happened to be what I had on hand...most are thick plates. It worked quite well. I drilled 4 holes for the clutch housing, so it could be mounted on either side. I used an engine hoist for the front half, then blocked it after the two halves were separated.
To provide more stability, I did add a peg leg to the other side when I needed to remove the rear wheels for paint. If I were doing the SA again, I would have put rolling jackstands on both side from the beginning.
NOTE: I did have the luxury of a concrete floor, but I think if you used the double wheeled jackstand and maybe an old sheet of plywood, it would roll enough to get the job done.

Re: Stuck Motor
Dale, I can't tell you how much I appreciate you posting those pictures! Yes, I think this is very doable. I will get my Nephew to look at these and I bet we can figure it out. I gotta tell ya, I was stumped. I knew we could block it up, but couldn't figure out how we was going to move it.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Re: Stuck Motor
Word of caution...just like the cub, the SA, since it is off-centered, also has the tendency to tip over if the front isn't blocked. I know that is not what you are doing now with the split, but wanted to mention it, just in case you DO use it for that. Here is a photo I posted while I was doing the SA restoration. It was a combination of a split and rear wheel removal. Since the front axle wasn't attached, I wasn't even THINKING about tipping. Luckily the tractor went over slowly, and hit the concrete rather gently. it did no damage to the tractor, hit the corner of the block, and only put a small chip in the floor!!

Scary crazy right there. I'll make double darn sure everything is as secure as possible.
Dale, I meant to tell you how great that paint job looks. I bet it didn't look as nice when it came off the assembly line.

Re: Stuck Motor
Reading through the posts, I couldn't find whether this Super C has a wide or narrow front end. It seems like that would make a difference in how you go about splitting it. Just thinking out loud.

Well, if you find a buyer for it, I'll pay a commission! Too many tractors (5), not enough room in the shed!

Re: Stuck Motor
Good point, Ike. I have no experience with the narrow front ends. Is there a bolster that you could put a long rod through for lateral stability? Just thinking...don't even know what they look like.

Or since you are working on the engine, I assume (!?) you would be removing the font end from the engine, too? Do that first, then just sling the engine with a hoist?

Re: Stuck Motor
I think you are right Dale. I hadn't thought it through far enough. All the splits I've seen were at the front or back of the torque tube and that's what I was thinking about.

It's a narrow front. Let me see if I can locate a picture. I think I have one from last summer after the hood and gas tank were removed. Give me a few.
