My C is blowing oil droplets out the exhaust. I think it's a leaky valve guide, but just wanted to check with you all before pulling the head.

Re: Blowing Oil
Oil sucked in past the valve guide would be minimal. Burned during the combustion cycle.
More than likely oil is bypassing the piston rings.

Re: Blowing Oil
Are you sure it is oil drops and not water carrying carbon from condensation in the exhaust? That is a very common problem with vertical exhausts.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Re: Blowing Oil
This really only happens at higher rpms. It makes a little smoke, but nothing what I would expect if it were coming from the piston. This tractor had frozen exhaust valive when I bought it. I'm not sure I did the best job when I freed it up. I my have scared the valve too.

Re: Blowing Oil
What do you think a compression test would tell me? I haven't done anything yet, too cold !

Re: Blowing Oil
Compression tests will tell you the overall condition of the engine.
Dry test - leaking valves. Wet test - compression leaks - rings. It's possible that if you have leaking valves and piston rings - the test will disclose both areas.

Re: Blowing Oil
Could having too much oil in the crankcase cause this?
