It is straight forward, I do not understand what bolts you are talking about. There is no trick , if you are talking about the bottom bolt, it sometimes gets corroded to the alternator and is a bird to get out.

From the Factory, these tractors were painted all put together and that alternator should have red paint on it if it were original. That one looks like the replacement $39.99 rebuilt Delco Style alternator from Advance Auto or somewhere similar. I have bought a few of them and they have that large sticker on them also.

Sorry I was not clear,I don't want to break the lower bracket and orginal mounting system trying to drive out that bolt. It's good to know the alternators were red when new. I will let keep spraying it with auto transmission fluid and acetone. Let it dry out and use heat as a last resort.

Can you unbolt the lower mounting bracket and remove the alternator and bracket - together? Then put the alternator and bracket in the vise.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: 1979 140 alternator removal?
It looks like a lot of work removing stuff (grill) to detach the bracket. When I did auto electric repair I think I remember some come in the shop for rebuilding with the mounting brackets and fan shroud on them .Maybe I can attach a dent puller to bolt and jerk it out .Anyway it's to wet and cold to use today . Thanks for the help!

Boss, you are absolutely right! It was a bird! Vice grips, dead blow hammer and a small dent in my headlight trim ring and it's out. It's going back with never seize. Thanks for the advise "sometimes if you are going no where you need to catch a ride with someone who is"
