Wow, an original "factory painted" oil filter!

The bracket on the fender could have been for any number of things I guess. The bracket over the gas tank is what intrigues me. It looks like two separate pieces of strap steel bent to fit. A factory bracket for whatever would have been just one piece. Maybe he was going to mount a toolbox there. I guess we may never know, but that sure is a nice looking 140. I bet the universal mounting frames are nice and tight!! Wish I had some that nice for Old Ugly!

Yeah, they're extremely tight. Wonder if these were original plow points/sweeps? They all seem to match...

If they are they will have a IH and part # on the back

I think Jim's right about the bracket on the fender being the stowage point for a remote safety light that would be transferred from wagon to wagon.

The hoop over the gas tank is definitely a radio mount. There are a couple of old fender-mount radios out at the farm and I bet the base for one of 'em lines right up.

I think I'll save that bracket then! It could have been put on when the guy ordered it from the dealer since the paint matches up to the gas tank. That would be cool to have a radio on a restored tractor. So....they made a particular "fender mount" radio for tractors without cabs?? I don't think I've ever heard of that. They must not be popular down here ......or I guess since 95% of people here have tractors for utility purposes around the house and for a small truck patch garden.

What about a planter monitor? We had a monitor on a tractor that mounted with 4 bolts...

When I was a little boy in the late 70s and early 80s, you were up-town if you had a radio mounted on the fender of an open station tractor. Oftentimes you could barely hear it over the engine noise, but someone standing across the field from the tractor could hear it good.....
I can see the dealer installing that bracket for a radio. IMO they should have done a neater job,but oh well.....do you see any extra wiring, maybe a plug of some sort, where a radio might have connected. Given how close it is, they might have straight wired it to the battery.

David C I thought about a planter monitor. Given the history of the tractor I sort of doubt it. If a guy couldn't visually keep up with whether or not a single row planter was planting or not, well......let alone the extra cost in putting a monitor on a one or two row planter.

If that bracket is for a wagon light, there should be a power socket on it too, probably in the vicinty of the warning flasher.

BTDT, put a radio, speaker and antenna in an old ammo box and strapped it to the ROPS. Wound up using headphones. Everyone 'cept me was hearing the music. Still have it, won't work on 6v Cub.

The tractor has the factory plug at the rear for Trailer Lights? None of the wiring has been botched or unplugged. It is all the way it came from the factory....unharmed. Instead of having a mechanical flasher module unit like the models without the switch for "turn signals", this one doesn't have the flasher module under the seat. It looks like to me that the flasher module is built into the switch for the turn signals because the rear of that switch is a huge sealed up square box (about 4"x5"). I'm sure the external light/flasher would have operated independently from those units though. It might have plugged into that factory round plug at the rear.

The Round plug on the back under the seat on the right next to the fender is for a trailer hook up.
