Just bought my first tractor Farmall 140 1964

Postby Kebamo » Thu Nov 29, 2012 7:07 am

I just bought my first farmall a 140 from a friend of mine who didn't use it has about 18 hrs on the rebuild came with a quick hitch bush hog paid 2500. For it. Runs good painted a couple of years ago and kept under a shed. Needs a little TLC like a couple of new tires in the rear. Has a new seat and back rest and new steering wheel. Can't wait to start working it!

Karl:

G'day to you and congrats on your new to you 140. There are lots of folks here with various incarnations of the A, SA 100 series tractors and although I do not have any manuals for the 140 on the server there should be enough help to get you through for a while. I would recommend that you get hold of Binder Books and order up the Owner's Manual, Parts Catalog and the Service Manuals. It is a good investment if you do not already have some.

There are lots of other resources in our community, follow the links below and it will provide you with some interesting reading.

I see you are also a ham operator i am KE3NF. Yes I have the service and owners manualmcame with the tractor and have been looking on eBay for parts as well the only thing I have to look at is maybe replacing the govenor the throttle works fine but doesn't seem to pick up when a load is put on it, found a whole throttle on eBay for 65.00 might just buy it and change it out. It has been converted to 12 volts , was rebuilt 18 on the motor
I need to see what kind of oil and trams fluids to use is synthetic ok?

I would use what the manual originally calls for. 30w engine oil, IH Hy-Tran Fluid, and 90w
