Found a broken woodruff key on the shaft (the one that holds the gear).
To me, that was an awesome find.
enjoy the photo.

Re: Eureka!......130 Steering slop solved. As hard a time as you've had getting that apart, I'm glad it will be a simple fix for you.

Re: Eureka!......130 Steering slop solved.Good deal. Check everything else though to make sure there is no slop. A little bit turns into a lot when things are back together.

Re: Eureka!......130 Steering slop solved. Thanks Bob,
The steering rod and bearing are still stuck in there. The shaft moves in and out of the bearing (ST 287) about 3/8", but that bearing does not want to budge. I'll get it out somehow, might as well change the bearing and seal too. Just Do It !
Re: Eureka!......130 Steering slop solved.Super A,
Everything else looks OK. Both keys will be renewed. The bearing ST 288, could be re-used, but I will likely replace it. The shaft bushing is not worn and the shaft fits in there nice and snug. To my eye, there is little, to no wear on that gear. Just Do It !
Re: Eureka!......130 Steering slop solved.Looks good Ed
