Farmall Cub

I finally found the time to get my pictures onto the computer. He's a little rough around the edges but we both think he'll be a good rugged working tractor. We haven't had much time to do anything but hubby has checked some things out. There was water in the oil filter cup and in the place to put the fluids for the steering wheel. He was really surprised when he inspected the oil. Nice and clean looking!! woohoo We already know that we'll need to redo the rings (whatever that is lol), will have to locate and purchase a radiator cap and hose, new or used steering wheel (this one is in really bad shape), all new wiring, and a shock absorber for the seat. There's no telling what else we'll have to replace but we're going to do this slowly so the expense won't hurt our checking account.

In this picture, would someone be kind enough to tell me what the part is called that has the shiny silver cap on it? I've looked in the Preventive Manual that Mr. Jim posted a link to and haven't located anything about it. It looks as if it needs some type of fluid in there but it's empty. Thanks!

Oh, Mr. Boss Hog, I can't wait to tell hubby (1) he was wrong lololol He thought it had something to do with the governor...shhhh don't tell him I squealed on him...and (2) of your kind offer!! I'll get back to you with prices and such after I talk to him. Thank you so very much!!

Here's a dumb question. What's the cap for under the hood. I think the sparkplugs are attached to it somewhere along the sides of it. I thought that was where you put the oil in.

You have to take the hood off to put oil in on the valve cover

lol Well that makes sense. You're going to have overlook me sometimes, I'm still trying my best to learn all of this stuff! lol

Thanks! Right now we're both saying we're not going to do anything cosmetic to it. Just get him up and running and let him stay as is. But...being a typical woman, I'm already thinking of how pretty he will be all painted up and shiny like Cubbie is:)
Time will tell...and right now, we're trying to find time to pick one thing to start with and just get one problem solved before tackling another one.
Cubbie is top priority right now. Something's amiss with the starter and thanks to BigDog, hopefully this weekend we'll have a chance to get it fixed. Thank goodness for the hand crank mechanism...at least I can still the much needed seat time

Give me a call when you can (tomorrow the 5th would be great, but we're available anytime). We specialize in refurbishing these tractors as well as Cubs. We currently have 35 Farmalls; 6 of which are 140's like yours. We have TONS of parts (I can also get you New parts for much less than you can find them). Any questions you may have ( no question is stupid), we would be more than happy to answer. And lastly if you need any implements, a new rockshaft, or a Fast Hitch; we've got that as well. We also have a Nice 1966 Farmall 140 all re-done and prettied up, so you could see and drive one thats been re-done. We look forward to hearing from you soon, and hope we can be of any help to you with your new addition!!

Oh, and by the way.......you actually have a "factory" seat on the tractor even though it isn't very common. It is an aftermarket seat made for the Super A-140 called the "Monroe Easy Ride Seat". It was offered as an option, and I've never seen one on a 140 although it could have possibly came from an earlier Super A from the late 40's or early 50's. We actually have a 1944 Farmall B with a Monroe Easy Ride Seat.

The 140's were commonly found with the factory IH pan seat or the optional IH Deluxe Cushion Seat with Backrest. That is probably why I've never seen one of those on a 140 since the deluxe seat was available then. I would be intrested in the Monroe Easy Ride Seat as a trade if you wanted to go back with an original IH seat for the 140.

Woooo!!! I can't wait to tell my husband about you!!! Do you happen to have the shock absorber for the seat? This one is shot and we'll have to have that. We still haven't had any time to even look at the 140 close enough to know what we will need. My Cubbie was on the priority list to get her up and running again. Finally got her running after a lot of sweat and lots of brainwork!! Maybe within the next month or so, we can start looking at the 140 and pick a place to start and go from there. One step at a time:)

Like I said before, as of now, we're thinking of just getting him running and not doing any cosmetic work on him. Course, if it's left up to me, he'll have a new paint job before it's over with! The steering wheel will need to be replaced because this one is in pretty bad shape. We will need 2 new front tires...the rims look to be in good shape (I hope!).

Where are you located?

If you swap it , swap for the deluxe seat as it is much more appealing to the lower back.
