140 4' bush hog. Do i need anything?

Postby Pops140 » Fri Feb 09, 2018 10:43 am

I'm purchasing a 4 foot woods Billy goat- M 4. I have a few questions, to use the hot do I need anything I have heard something about an additional clutch for the pto or something, what's your thoughts. Also does any one own a 4' woods bush hog. How do you like it. And lastly how much is a good condition 4' bush hog with the one point quick hitch receiver. For the 140 worth used. But it looks to be in good condition.what should I pay and how much were they new? Thanks guys.

An over run clutch, do a search on it. Your bush hog will continue spinning the PTO when you stop or push the clutch in since it doesn't have live PTO and you also won't be able to change gears until it stops. The over run clutch will help with that.

It's NOT the gear changing thingy, it's the safety factor!---IF ya gotta stop fast,--dump the clutch, and get pushed right into something and possible injury to you ,or damage the tractor or the mower!---Trust me it will happen!! Don't chance it!--get the over running unit, they are probably around $50. or so!
My woods 42's have the clutch made into the top drive pulley of the mower, and yes you can shift with the clutch down and mower still freewheeling!---I do on the cub's and on my A all the time! I just do a quick "slap shift"!--- Would never get any mowing done if I waited every time for mower to stop! thanks; sonny

The guys are right, that over running clutch is a big safety factor. You might run it for years with no problem, but all it takes is once needing to stop in a hurry to make it worth while.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
