Super A timing marks

Postby Big Mike » Sat Feb 03, 2018 5:17 pm

When I took this engine apart I remember looking at the timing marks on the crankshaft and cam gear to ensure they were aligned. However, after cleaning and beginning to reassemble everything I noticed something that has made me question whether I actually saw what I saw. Directly opposite and 180 degrees from what I'm using as the timing mark are two additional marks on the cam gear that straddle one of the teeth. I've assembled it with the single mark on the crankshaft gear aligned with the single mark on the cam gear. The other two marks do not match the mark on the crankshaft gear when the crank is rotated to that position. What are the other two marks for and am I correct by aligning the two single marks on the two gears. I'm assuming I have it timed correctly but those other two marks have me second guessing myself. Can someone shed some light?

I may have just answered my own stupid question. Those other two marks have to be timing marks for the governor and distributor drive gear? Since I don't have a magneto does the governor drive gear actually need to be timed to these marks? Occasionally even a blind hog finds an acorn!
