Super A
I am taking apart a Super A to paint and it seems like the front steering and bolster are yellow. Was there a utility model, or is it that those are substituted parts or did somebody just painted it yellow. I haven't gotten to grinding on it and only removed the fenders and the rear hydraulic hitch, but the only places I see the yellow are in the front.
I had forgotten how temperamental old, rusted nuts and bolts can be to remove. It seemed everyone needed the breaking bar.

Re: Super A
Out here in the east the majority of these tractors saw service with the highway department for mowing duty. Others saw factory or dock work. These were painted yellow.
It’s also slightly easier to find the International IA version with the beefy front axle than the Farmall A tractors out here for that reason.
So if you find yellow paint all over it that tractor likely started life with the highway department.
If the only part you find with yellow is the front axle assembly then it’s a safe bet that assembly was swapped out for one that came off one of those highway tractors.
I have 2 ‘46 IA’s and a ‘58 Lo-boy. They all had yellow paint.

Re: Super A
Does that look like the correct front end? It seems wider than it should be....although I don't really have anything to base that on and it isn't my tractor anyway.

Re: Super A
okay...When done, I have to give it back....and much to my chagrin, it will be placed in front of a factory with mums planted around it. On one hand I want to do it because I don't want it to rust to pieces and he lent me his trailer when I brought home the SC, but on the other hand I am sad for it's purpose. I will talk him into changing all the fluids and to roll it over every couple of months so that when he is old and comes to his senses it will be on good footing. I suppose I am doing passive preservation...or at least that is what I am telling myself

You could always volunteer to run it for him, once a month.

If they want yard art buy them yard art, and you keep the super!
I’d call that a win / win!
That’s only a couple hours drive from you.

The warden would kill me if I came home with another tractor. Mum mowing sounds like every guys dream though.

Re: Super A
No, this guy wants THIS one because it looks so BA. He knows absolutely nothing about them....He just thinks it looks super...he has a cub out there at his other plant now in NJ. He was driving through PA a couple of years ago and saw the cub and the SA by the interstate for sale, stopped, bought them for $4000, loaded them on his trailer and took them home. The cub was restored so it got its place of honor immediately. I know the guy and connected with him when I heard second hand that he had the farmalls. I offered to paint it up for him....he actually thought it was another cub. I borrowed his truck and trailer, dropped the SA off at my place in CT and went on the RI for SC. So now I have it to fix up.

Re: Super A
As to rolling the engine over periodically myself, I work in north NJ and live near New Haven CT so riding 45min south to the guys place in NJ would be difficult.
