Implements for a 42 Farmall A.

Postby Kurtis751990 » Sun Dec 17, 2017 11:14 am

I recently aquire a 1942 Farmall A. Very interesting how the seat sits to the side. I need to use it for tilling but I don't think you can put a 3 point hitch on this tractor. What kind of implements are available for a tractor like this?

Congrats on your A and welcome to the forum. If you browse this subject you will find that implements are mostly dedicated to the particular tractor that they are designed for and for the most part will not interchange. There are exceptions of course. Unless someone has added a hydraulic system to your A that's the first thing I would consider when trying to add a 3pt attachment assembly. There are aftermarket and custom built adaptations for this and some are listed on this forum. You can try a search (upper right corner of this page). After a couple more posts you can access the pdf Manuals Section at the upper left corner of this page by clicking on Quick Links. You will probably find some related information there. The Farmall A was replaced by the Super A in the late forty's and a lot of the information is applicable to both. Some equipment/implements might interchange but there are differences also. Good Luck and enjoy your tractor.
EDIT: Here's a picture of a custom built 3pt hitch, made by a Forum member and mounted on a FCub. It uses the Cub hydraulics and is operated by the rockshaft. Click on the picture makes it larger.

I have both A, and Super A.--They are way different units and some imps. could be re-maned. to fit either.--The VERY first suggestion I make is to mount a live hyd. pump on the front of the engine.---Then make/buy a 3-pt. hitch for the A.--Super A has a hyd. rockshaft lift where as the A don't, so this will make it harder, but not impossible to construct. At that point make the 3-pt. to sae specs. and you can use any imp. that the newer compact tractors use!thanks; sonny

Thank you guys. I think I'm going to try to sell her. I need something a little more out of the box ready. She'll make someone who can appreciate her real happy I'm sure.
