Farmall A 9.5-24 tire/wheel question
I am sitting in my big truck out in the Wilds of Pennsylvania pondering on my 1940 A.
Rear wheel (four lug) and tire rotted from chloride. The tire is 9.5-24. Is the wheel a 9" or 10" wheel? Or do I need to get back on home and dismount the tire to measure the bead?
If I knew the wheel size I could have a new one waiting at the home 20 for me.
Thank you. I appreciate your time.
P.S. ... good online sources for wheels, tires, and tubes?

Used, place a Classified add on THE VINE forum. Forum Sponsors at the bottom of this page might also have one. NEW, try m. e. miller tire, they have an online store listing. Occasionally Craigslist has listings, there was one about a week ago with a tire. also check ebay.

Not sure what a home 20 is, but if you contact JP (one of the forum sponsors), he can ship a good used one to you.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Farmall A 9.5-24 tire/wheel question
A 9-24 (new size 9.5-24) originally would have been on a 8" wheel. After this many years, it's hard to say what your 9.5 tire is actually on. Beware that places will sell a Cub rim to guys that have an A. They are NOT the same.

Re: Farmall A 9.5-24 tire/wheel question
I'll second that.
Though both centers and rims are 24" they will not interchange, I tried when selling one for an interested party to be certain it was interchangeable and was glad I tried.
No one would have been happy with that deal.
On one A it had 8.3 s mounted. One one an 8" rim, the other on a 10" rim. I'll bet it was fun seating that tire.
I ended up hunting down another 10" rim and mounting 11.2's.
Generally rims will be 1" less than the tire mounted on them.

Busted the 9.5-24 tire off. It was on an 8"rim. New fire ring I have now.

Be a shame to see that rim destroyed. I'm not a welder but have used a basic Lincoln handy welder to repair rust damage on rims. Following up with a grinder to make my primative welds pretty. If I can do that anyone can.
Find an old truck rim for the fire.

If the rim is truly beyond repair, save the lugs. I don't think any of the new rims have the proper lugs. These could be put on a new 8" blank rim.

Good call on the lugs. The rim pretty much is a total loss. The valve stem side the bead is gone down into the main body unfortunately.

Like I said, I'm not a welder.
I will say the finished product however I got there looks good, lasts and it's by my hand.

That piece can be replaced with a piece from a donor rim and welded in place. Remember these are scarce and identical new ones are not available. Worth the effort to save it IMHO. If you don't want to go to the trouble, you could offer it to someone via THE FORUM.wbw1mi wrote:Good call on the lugs. The rim pretty much is a total loss. I have a couple of rims I'm considering doing that exact thing to. Is there a source for the rivets that hold them on?

Re: Farmall A 9.5-24 tire/wheel question
Rivets are rivets. Keep in mind that some if not all of those lugs are specific to a rim width.
