Super A and 22 Mower

Postby CDD » Mon Jun 19, 2017 12:36 pm

I was wondering if the pulley that is slid on the PTO is the same one for the Super A as is the 140? Just doesn't seem to be enough room to get that pulley on there.

Did you remove the PTO shroud/shield? It's the gray part in the picture below:

Yes that is off of there but the (belt pulley? the other housing with a shaft coming out(top right of picture) seems to be in the way to slide that pulley on there. What is the diameter of the pulley that goes on there?

I need to reference my parts manual but I believe belt pulleys came in different sizes for different speed applications. Also the belt pulley shaft and the PTO shaft had different output speeds.

The flat pulley shouldn't interfere with the mower pulley. Worst case, you can replace the pulley itself with a spacer on the pulley shaft. Where is your interference problem?

The pulley will not fully slide onto the PTO shaft without hitting the housing for the belt pulley

What shouldn't be a problem. Have you mounted the lower shaft to see where the pulley needs to line up? You don't have the pulley backwards? Show us a picture.

Well I just figured that the bolt would face out for easy tightening but I guess it fits on there with the bolts on the inside. I pushed then tapped it on with a rubber mallet until it stopped. I think it should go on further but didn't have time.

Will ensure the pto is cleaned and greased along with the pulley.
Do I have to take the bars off the belly, fertilizer bracket and the cultivators off the back for it all to clear?

I know the rolling cultivators need to come off.

Would like to see a picture or two of a Super A with a belly sickle mower attached so I can see how it all actually hooks up.

Take the bolts in the pulley all the way out and then try sliding it on. I'm having a little crs but I believe they go through the notch in the PTO shaft to line the pulley up correctly and hold it on tightly.

You will need to take the rear cultivators off and IIRC you techincally need to mount the drawbar so everything lines up right.

Are there any 360 degree pictures out there of a mower on a super A?

I doubt it. There are fairly decent illustrations in the #22 Operator's Manual which is in the PDF manuals in the Super A collection.

are you certain that the pulley goes on that PTO shaft and not the 90 degree one? I do know that we have had a few Super A and 140 tractors that had a Woods belly mower and the mower PTO pulley was mounted on the 90 degree PTO shaft. I'm not very familiar with the sickle mowers.
