Farmall Super AV
Well guys, thought I would share my latest find... picked up a Super AV last week. A friend of mine's uncle passed away a few years ago, and the property was sold. The new property owner finally got around to cleaning up the property. So he had this "tractor" that he wanted gone. Long story short my friend called me to go look at it. Need less to say I couldn't pass it up, the price was right... FREE. The serial number tag is missing, but by the engine casting Y it appears to be around 1953. It will need a lot of work, but I didn't want it going to scrap yard.
Just thought I would share.
Compared to my 1952 Farmall Cub for size...
I will keep you posted on progress...

Tin looks pretty good, weights on the front wheels, looks like a toolbar in back, and FREE. I'd say you did well! Did you get the missing parts?

Re: Farmall Super AV
Yeah the old man that passed had started "working" on it. He had it partially torn down. I found the head, valve cover and air breather. I did not find the oil pan and generator. But was able to pick up an oil pan on ebay, waiting for it to come in.
I have been putting marvel oil in cylinders since I brought it home and it will turn over with hand crank now. I have been able to remove manifold, carburetor, valves, springs and keepers from head and it looks serviceable.

Didn't see any cracks or repairs on block. Steering box housing in front has some repair welds on it though.

Re: Farmall Super AV
Does any one know how many Super AV's were made? Just wondering how rare they really are.

Their numbers are mixed in with regular Super A and Super AI numbers, so no way of really knowing. I think rare is dependent on your location. When I was growing up in the late 70s-80s there were two Super AVs within 10 miles of my house. I had the chance to buy one back in the late 90s and like a dummy, I didn't. I hope to own a Super AV one of these days......

Re: Farmall Super AV
Well it looks like she will need major left knee replacement or repair if possible...
Cleaning 64 years of dirt from left final revealed no bolts holding top of final and some weld repair at top. I guess that's why the PO had added the cross ties from final to final in order to reinforce them.

Re: Farmall Super AV
I found that the final on my "pretty" Super A had been broken and re-welded (brazed) when it was cleaned up for paint. The repair was so well done and had been that way for so long that I decided to leave it. I think those left finals caught a lot more abuse than the right!
