IH140 hard to start

Postby JRobbins » Wed Dec 14, 2016 11:53 am

I have been having trouble starting my IH 140. I purchased and installed a new coil and new carb. After installing the new carb it started but the throttle control would not control the engine speed. I made adjustments to the control rod from the carb to the governor but now it won't start. Fuel was dripping from the bottom of the carb so I thought it was flooded. I closed the fuel valve and drained the carb but I still cannot get it to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the plugs? Have you checked the points? May need new ones. Not sure why a new carb would be leaking, may need to adjust the float.

I purchased and installed electronic ignition so there are no points. I had the head rebuilt at a machine shop and installed new plugs and wiring when I installed the rebuilt head. I have a manual but I cannot find anything in it about setting a new carb.

I took your advice and changed the spark plugs. I also readjusted the linkage from govenor to carburator. Tractor started up and ran great but was idling a little fast so I adjust the linkage and now it is running like it should. Thanks for your input.

You're welcome. I have found with plugs even though they may look good, they may not be good. Glad you got it going!
