Heavy Snow Predicted
And I want to be ready! I doubled up on the rear wheel weights and hung a 200 lb. chunk of Iron on the draw bar.
If the weight isn't enough I have a set of chains hanging on the wall that I can put on in 15 minutes. I know some folks dread the snow but I enjoy the challenge.
One of the best modifications I have completed was to add another hydraulic circuit to angle the blade, eliminating the need to crawl off the tractor to pull the pin.

OooWEE! I like your 140 and snowblade setup (and your fightin' Tweety Bird decal)! Hope you get just enough snow to make you happy. Forecasters are not calling for much around KC this winter; much like last year...we'll see.

I need to mow some more leaves over the next couple of weeks before I pull the deck and put the plow on. Driveway at the new house is 1/8 mile long vs 220' at the old house. We'll see how the Cub does. I have a 6.5' Meyer plow that I plan to mount to my H if the going gets too rough for the Cub. Just gotta find me a whole lot of scrap angle iron.

Yep, that's one fine looking 140. You've got enough iron hanging on her to push snow like a tank. That's a Tweety with an attitude!! I'm going to hang my plow tomorrow if I get a chance. I start a new job on Monday and will be working a lot of hours so I better get it mounted while I have a chance.

Re: Heavy Snow Predicted
Thanks Stanton,
I really like the 140, it isn't quite as maneuverable as the cub but handles heavy snow very well. I have pushed snow with the cub as far as she could windrow then continued with the 140 and it didn't break a sweat! (maybe it was too cold)
OH! We are so ready!

Re: Heavy Snow Predicted
Hey Bub, got enough weight on that beast?
I'm guessing with double weights and another on the drawbar you'd rather not run chains. The rubber scraper edge is another tipoff you want to be kind to your driveway.
Does all that weight actually work or does it still spin a little?
Beautiful pair of tractors by the way.

Re: Heavy Snow Predicted
Bub, one more thing that I thought of, you have two weights per wheel. Do you have the heavy cast centers too or stamped centers?
I put a pair of the cast centers on my A to gain a little edge with the weights for traction.
Also, I can't see the front rims, did you double up there too?

Re: Heavy Snow Predicted
Mike, you are right, I add the weight and the rubber scraper to try and protect the concrete drive.
Last year I doubled the rear weights but didn't add anything to the draw bar, it worked very well, I did have some spinning on some pack ice on the neighbors drive once my front tire dropped off the edge of the drive.
And yes I have the heavy cast centers I'm guessing around 1000lbs of weight on the rear?
The rubber on the blade is cut from horse stall Matt, and works very well, I've seen many drives that have been damaged by the blade chipping the concrete at expansion joints, and I'm too old and too cheap to replace over 200 feet of drive. .
We have been blessed with above average temps of late and Lake Michigan is about 23 degrees above normal for this time off year, I know it's going to get cold ( in the teens) long before the lake begins to freeze and wind from the north.... We have problems in these parts! So it's best to be as prepared as possible, besides, I enjoy the thrill of a blizzard

Re: Heavy Snow Predicted
Wait, you added two cast centers on the rear wheels? Not sure if you know this, but it is supposed to be one pressed rim and one cast on these tractors. The cast goes on the "passengerside". This is to balance the weight because most of the weight is on the other side due to the offset design.

My fault, I only have the one heavy cast, however the other is a cast as well but not as thick. I'm not sure if this is due to the 140 being an Industrial or what. But I will tell you it's not stamped steel like my Cub.
Maybe someone will know the "whole story" as I understand it, the Industrial had several changes.
Bruce.

That has me curious. Have you found an IH part number cast into it? I might be able to find a reference to it.

Re: Heavy Snow Predicted
I'd avoid metal contact with a concrete drive too. Besides the scrapes you'd end up with rust stains from chains and a metal scraper blade.
One thought, you might end up flipping that draw bar to the front with the weight under the center of the tractor if you find it taking weight off the front and possibly losing steering traction. That plow is so big it might balance it out though.

What a rig. Beautiful what type of paint did you use on the 140 I am looking to paint my IH industrial. I could only hope for my machine to shine like that. Also I love the cover for the engine where did you pick that up

Re: Heavy Snow Predicted
There's another yellow International 140 foot throttle and all for sale near me asking $2,500.
It's complete and really nice shape.
It's calling my name but the wife is saying forget it! You've got tractors you haven't finished working on. Don't you dare!
Damn! Bet he'd take $2,000 cash.
