140 Hydraulic Unit arm speed flow control?
I have noticed the factory mower 140 tractors have a restricted down speed on the hydraulic arms compared to the regular 140 tractors. Is there an adjustable flow control in the unit or is it just a different orifice or plumbing that controls the speed? The up speed on the 140 mower tractors seems the same or similar?

It's so the heavy mowers don't go crashing down and knock a hole in the blacktop. The International Super A dropped slower than the Farmall Super A too. The specs in the Touch-Control Serviceman's Guide gave the speed difference. There is a difference either in a valve or passageway. I think the difference is only one part. In the Parts Catalog, you can go down through the parts list for the main Touch-Control unit and find the difference.

OK, I'll ask.....what is a "factory mower 140 tractor"? Is this the 140 Industrial?

Well I have both Industrial and non-industrial mower tractors. They were built with different hydraulic arms than the regular agriculture tractor and had factory mounted sickle mowers.

When the Super A came out, the International and Farmall Super As carried through the same differences from the old A. With the added Touch-Control, the drop speed restriction was an additional difference between the International and the Farmall. I don't think the special Touch-Control arms came on the tractor, would have been part of the A-23 highway mower.
By the time the 140 came out in 1958, Evidently the only difference between the International and Farmall models was the nameplate. There was a "group equipment" package that included the "items normally required when using N0. 23 Mower". It included the HD front axle, foam seat, Touch-Control for the 23 mower, foot accelerator, PTO, and combination rear light. I don't know if the Touch-Control difference was only the drop speed modification, probably. You could order the individual items. At this time, the only available highway mower was the 23. Later on, I think the whole thing about 2 different tractor models was dropped and you could order the options on any tractor.
The mowers were made at a different factory than the tractors. I imagine the mowers were installed at the dealer.

Re: 140 Hydraulic Unit arm speed flow control?
They offered several different model mowers over the years....105 mower and I think 130 mower also? The earlier ones had a very short (10-12 inches) pitman that and was designed so the mower could run in the vertical position. Other ones had an IH "Balanced" gearbox (no pitman) that also allowed the sickle to run in the vertical position.
