One thing about thicker gear oil is it helps tone down some of the natural whine in the transmission and rear end. Thin oil may make it sound like it's coming apart under your feet!
Anything labeled "gear oil" or "gear lube" in the 80 to 140 viscosity range is good for any older Farmall that doesn't also use the rear end as a hydraulic reservoir. That would be anything made after 1958, with the exception of Cubs.
You do have an owner's manual coming for this thing, right?

The 140 doesn't.
Also remember that the thinker oil will slow the drive shaft down faster after you press the clutch so you don't have to wait as long for it to slow down to prevent grinding between gear shifts.

There already is a set of Super A manuals on this site that will answer most of the questions that have been asked.

Re: transmission fluid
It's good to know another local Farmall person...quite a few around here, actually!
I'm not sure of the differences between the 140 and SA, but I have a '48 SA, and I use NAPA's Gear Oil for steering, finals and transmission, but use IH HyTran for the hydraulic Touch Control system. I buy both in the 5gal pails.
Not sure if I could be of any help, but feel free to PM me if you need a hand with anything. Always up for talking tractors over a cup of or !

Additionally, in the PDF manuals above there is a section titled "Preventative Maintenance". It has a couple versions of Cub thru 140/240/340 preventative maintenance manuals. Lots of good information in them.
