I finally am able to dedicate some time to the A today so I thought I'd change the oil.
I've never dropped the pan since owning the tractor so I wanted to give it a good look and cleaning. I ran the tractor and drove it around for about 30 minutes with some Seafoam, topping off the oil. I parked it under some shade, let the oil drain and cut some grass with my Cub while waiting for it to finish draining.
In coming back (about 30 minutes later), I dropped the pan and found at least a hundred stinkbug bodies in the bottom of the pan and sucked up into the oil pickup (WHAT!!!!!!?????). From there, I started feeling around in all of the settled gunk in the bottom and found a lot of little metal shards that pieced together, make a shear pin/cotter pin or two. I looked up at the crank and saw two were missing!!! Not only that but I found two small bearings.
What are these bearings out of and is it common for these shear pins to break??? I'm enroute to the hardware store now to buy a few more pins.
I know these tractors are old and stuff wears out...
Should I be worried?
Edit: Replaced the broken cotter pins with some hardware store replacements (I guess that's acceptable) and have finished changing the oil. Im glad I dropped the pan this time. Those stinkbugs were apparently hindering my oil pressure fairly well. I now have excellent pressure and the needle stays burried as far in the green as it can go.

Re: "A" Oil Change Help
Does anybody have any ideas about the bearings or sheared cotter pins?

Re: "A" Oil Change Help
The only place I know that the bearings might have come from is the governor. I'm not sure roller (ball) bearings were used anywhere else internal to the engine.

Re: "A" Oil Change Help
Yeah I saw a few bearings in the governor when I replaced the spring but never had any come out. Aside from that, I dont know how they'd even get to the oil pan from there. Well if nobody knows, I guess I'll just roll with it. The engine runs rather well and everything else appeared to look in order.

Re: "A" Oil Change Help
depending on the size of the roller bearing it may have been from the exhaust valve rotators but not sure as I know how they are made on a small block chevy but never took one apart from a farmall... these would be smaller than bb's while the ones from gov. would be larger... Just a shot in the dark.... and to the love-bugs if you ever left the oil fill tube cap off they probably went in it. I remember a post on here talking about odd things found in the engine and you would be supprised to what kids, animals or even mechanics drop/ put in there....

Re: "A" Oil Change Help
I don't believe any of these tractors came with exhaust valve rotators, although they could probably been added right?

Re: "A" Oil Change Help
I'm not sure what year they added the rotators but I have seen them on both engines i've worked on and in the parts manuals but they came later I think at the same time they started making the low-boys with the higher HP engines (and when they changed from being basically a cub thats lower to having a full frame)(aka 154 155's)
