Belly mower parts question

Postby easydog » Fri Jan 23, 2015 12:35 pm

So, I picked up a used Woods L59 belly mower recently. It apparently has everything it needs except the two wheels that mount to the front of the mower. I looked online and can only seem to find replacement wheels, but I don't have the brackets that the wheels mount to. Any pointers on where I might be able to find some?

Your local Woods dealer can order them as new parts. Carry a barf bag and wear Depends because you will either lose your lunch or soil yourself when you see what they cost.

Those gauge wheels were optional. Many mowers only had the skid shoes on the ends.

Good golly. Consider the barf bag and depends filled although in my shock I may have used them interchangeably. $306 for the pair and I paid $250 for the mower itself.

So, you're saying the casters are optional, huh? That sounds a lot more affordable.

As I recall, the wheels were optional. Mainly designed to avoid scalping on uneven ground. You might try it without them, depending on your use. Maybe check with JP Tractor Salvage at bottom of page, they may be able to help you.

easydog, if you get those wheels from Stan, maybe they can get to DSCF, and I can bring them back up to Chapel Hill, NC...not too far from you.

Appreciate the responses guys. For a little more info, I will be using the mower mostly for keeping our access road cut down and mowing mostly herbaceous cover crops like Crimson clover or cowpeas. The only uneven ground would be what is left after discing. Would I need the wheels for that?

Also, I just checked out the mower again tonight and noticed the left side skid is broken off. They are only $61 at Messick's. I guess in any situation I need to replace that.

The uneven ground after disking would be dependent upon the quality of the disking job. You might find the wheels beneficial for that. For my lawn mowing, I remove the wheels and have not had a problem.
