What is the difference between an A and a Super A? How about HP rate? I am looking at an A, price is 2500 condition runs nice ,seems solid, very weathered also it appears that my Woods L59 belly mower would mount right in...... Know any A forms???

For one thing, the A's did not have hydraulics.

The difference between A and SA's are that the A's do not have hydralics and SA's do. Just met a guy yesterday that told me that. He has a 1950 SA demonstator.

There are more than just the hydralics. The draw bars and radiators are different also. There are engine differences also.I can't recall right now.

I think an A has a c113 and an SA has a c123 or something like that

There are probably as many things different from the A to Super A as there are the same. Hydraulics is the big difference. The engines are both 113 ci until the Super A-1 (1954) which is 123.

The Super A - Super AV Manual is on the server. The Super A - Super AV Owner's Manual, the Super A Special Attachments, might be of some help to you. The Parts Manuals for both the Super A and the A are also there if you wish to compare. Unfortunately, I do not have an Owner's Manual for an A yet.

Thanks all, that kind of confirms that I am looking at a Super A because it has hydrolics.... The A's are intersting since they look simalar to the Cub....

I Have a SA w/ a woods L59 mower and it is a fairly simple mount, nothing special is needed, although the touch control lift is better for that mower

Why does my OEM book show different part numbers for both??

I'm not sure why, but there isn't any difference. There may be a difference in the rear tool bars though. None in the front. There also may be other subtle differences but the only difference I've ever ran across is the lack of hydraulics on the A. Change the torque tube and engine, add a hydraulic unit, and you have a Super A. I'm running a Super A now that was wrecked that I put the complete front axel and radiator on from an A. I've used a lot of parts from an A on Super A's throughout the years and haven't see one difference except the ones I mentioned.

It's pretty typical of a large manufacturer to have multiple part numbers for the EXACT SAME PART. I can't count how many times in my short lifespan that I've put two parts with different part numbers side-by-side, and can't tell the difference between the two. The sticker to the situation is that usually, one of the two parts costs about twice as much as the other!

A and Super A drawbars were differnt. Super A used a quick attach mount, like the Cub.

Late A has same radiator as Super A. Early A was different because of change to hood and grill attachment.
