Replace the coil. Expensive, but will probably fix your problem.

The old farmer fix. Remove mag's internal coil and install an external coil. You will need a coil with resister, switch, and some electrical wire, and a plug wire.

Magnetos' from WC/WD Allis' fit IH tractors.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Distributor from an "A" will work but one from a Cub will not. Different advances.

I have done exactly what Eugene suggested a while back on my cub. Actually very simple mod.....just need to find a place to mount the coil.

When I was about 14 I did that in the middle of a corn field on a Farmall H after I walked 3/4 mile back to the barn, took coil off of an old car and carried it along with a couple wires and alligator clips back to cornfield. ahhh, for the good old days. NOT!!!!

Here's an example of the external coil "fix." This is on an old Adams Motor Grader that was at the county municipal auction last weekend, powered by a McCormick U-4 power unit with a Farmall H engine.

It brought $3000, so I sincerely doubt it went for scrap. Someone bought it to use or for their collection.
