So, I took the covers off my final drive pans to change the oil in them and the left pan was completely empty. I didn't think much of it as I thought that the PO neglected to fill it. He neglected a few things. Anyways I dumped them and filled them only to notice very small weeping were a dent was in the pan, most likely caused by hitting something on the ground.

Question, is there a way to easily fix this? Clean and dry the pan and get some kind of sealant? Do I need a new pan? Can a little big of material be welded on to cover it up? Its like a pin-sized hole that causes a slow drip.

The big question, I think, is whether or not the hole is due to damage or exterior corrosion/pitting. When I redid my SA a couple years ago, I had rebuilt the final and after painting and a new gasket, refilled with gear oil. The next morning all that gear oil was on the floor!

Turned out it was due to a PIN HOLE. After careful examination, and consultation with this forum, it was decided that even if I filled that hole (filler, brazing, etc.) that another would probably pop up, since the exterior showed fairly heavy pitting. I ended up buying another one from a local salvage yard. ($30)

If yours is due only to damage, I have seen some brazed pans that looked OK, and maybe someone with more experience can suggest a filler that would be easier. Good luck!

Well, I'd lean more towards damage rather than corrosion. The leak is at the epicenter of a deep dent. Like it was jabbed real good on a rock or something.

since its due to damage rather than rust where the whole bottom might be pin holed or thin, you could mig weld after you bang out the dent, or scuff it good and jb weld it both sides. I've done both successfully.

to avoid these problems with oil pans and drop axle pans, after I sandblast them I hold them up to the light to see if there are stars :)

bull gear side play

My left side bull gear has side to side play any sugestions why. It does have drive in the Bearing.also any sugstions on getting it apart thanks booboo
