I think I have a cutout, not a reg.

Postby havoc1482 » Mon Mar 03, 2014 5:40 pm

So, I was just playing with the tractor in the garage, and I was curious about the ammeter. I was just curious about making the needle move by throttling up/down, and turning the lights off/on. I expected the charge to drop when I turned the lights on, but instead it skyrocketed. So I turned them off, and clicked them on again. But I noticed something. There were Four clicks, not Three, to get to Bright. First position showed little charge, next showed high charge, then Dim and Bright both showed high charge.

Safe to say I have a cutout that and the light switch was mislabled as "O-D-B" and not "L-H-D-B"? I have the other label and I'm thinking I should change it. Thoughts?

Tractor is 48 Super A

Take the cover off. A cutout has one coil/relay inside. A regulator has two or more.

If your lights are working, it would normally only charge a little with them on bright. Generators on the old 6 volt rigs only put out a couple amps more than all 3 lights pulled. If you turn them on with it not running does it show discharge?

you are part of the problem!!!

It does show negative charge when lights turn on when it is off. I also have one light disconnected because it gets in the way of the plow linkage. Is it unreasonable to think that without the draw of a 3rd lamp the charge would be shown greater than normal on the ammeter? The 2nd position really throws the needle to the max, this is with the lights off. The next two are mugh higher than position 1, but not as much as position 2. I assume because there is a power draw?

So, definitely a cutout haha. Guess I better go change the light switch label.
