Super A tires

Postby havoc1482 » Sat Mar 01, 2014 3:05 pm

Okay, so my current tires are really starting to dry rot (all 4) and I have a feeling that I'm going to have to replace them some-point in the near future. If I did, I wanted to get those fatter, larger tires. Like these:

Is there a different size rim too? I'd just like some info about the subject, like tire sizes and anything else I need to know.

this is what I currently have:

Look at the rim verses the wheel weight in those pictures. it appears the second one has a much wider rim, but the first picture appears to be a standard rim, but tires are not as wide as second picture..

I noticed that. I was basically giving an idea of what I want to do. I like the big tires that come up flush with the wheel well/shield.

My SA has 12.4 tires on it. I bought them new and they were a bit pricey. I think I paid 7-8 hundred for the pair, but I won't need more in my lifetime. Plus I like the way they look.

a little off topic two-tone, how did you mount the plow to the drawbar mounts? Was it a special bracket or something? I can attach mine to the TC in the same manner, but unsure how to mount below.

Also, those big tires look AWESOME! That is exactly what I'm looking for.

You need a substitute draw bar to mount the plow underneath, and you need a boomerang. I made both pieces, if you look at the second picture, you can see a blue piece mounted to the finals in the front. I cant give you any measurements for the substitute drawbar because the tractor is 500 miles away. I made the boomerang from a pattern Dale Finch sent me.

I assume the boomerang part is the piece on attached to the TC rocker arm? Then if you look at my picture, you'll see I have that exact part, my plow is just attached to the other end of it. I always wondered what that hole on the other end was for  Thanks for the info! I'm sure I'll think of something :)

Again, JMO 12.4s are too big for a Super A. Looks like you have 9.5's now? I would go up to 11.2 and call it done. You can get away with a narrower rim, it pulls the sidewalls in some which to me also looks funny, but going from a 9.5-24 all the way to 12.4 I would think you would need wider rims. The good news is some Cubs ran 9.5s so you could re-sell them to offset the cost of doing the swap. Also what size front tires does it have? I can't tell good but if you have 4.00-15's on the front I would consider replacing them with 5.00-15's.

I agree 12.4 are too big for a SA. 11.2 or even 9.5 would probably power you through a garden much better. My SA is pretty much put out to pasture. It's worked a good life, now it's time to give it an easy life. I pulled an 8 foot disc with it one season, and I've never used the grader blade/plow for anything. The whole tractor is just for looks. It's in really good condition and I want to keep it that way. I think it looks good the way it is, but would actually work better with some changes.

We run 12.4s on our 140 with 10 inch rims , works very well, gives more clearance for cultivating. And the looks are a added bonus :D I think Dad ordered it that way new. Was bought in 1977, fast hitch , full set of cultivators and side-dresser $7688.00
We got a fast hitch sprayer and a Holland tobacco planter with it too but am not sure if that was in the price of the tractor

Not sure exactly what it's from but I have one pretty good 9.5 on a rim that I believe will fit..... got it for a Cub and found that the center/rim is just a bit smaller and it won't fit. Probably impossible to match it with another tire, but if you were just looking to work the tractor it would be fine.

Tires are pretty pricey these days!
