140 BOSS HOG HELP!!!!

Postby rexxon » Sat Aug 03, 2013 1:42 pm

BOSS, I just rebuilt the steering box on my 140HC and the top bearing was shot, put everything back together and it was a little better but today while cultivating beans it went right back to the same thing, the center pitman arm is riding up and down 1/2 to 3/4 inch, I know this has been covered before. But not after a rebuild I suppose the snap ring could have broken or and this is my question for you the 3 bolt retainer that holds the upper bearing, mine was worn down so I just fliped it upside down, so it was flat on both sides now I am wondering DID IT HAVE A LIP ON THE UPPER SIDE WHEN NEW TO KEEP THE BEARING TIGHT TO THE HOUSING?????????? I am going to have to break it down again anyhow just wondering what parts I need now.

Thanks Rex

Rex, Here is a link to Messick's. You'll need to click on steering and then you can magnify and scroll to look at the parts: http://www.messicks.com/CAS/55885.aspx

Thanks Fellows,

I am just going to buy the clip and retainer and I will know for sure, I knew that clip was thin when I put it back on but thought I would get lucky, which in a way I guess I did because all the shafts and gears looked great.

I hope I have learned a lesson, while you have it apart and the "C" clip only cost $3.49 its alot cheaper to replace it that having to take it apart again. Sure enough the old "C" clip was broken.

Now good as new.
