Help attaching fast hitch helper spring on Super A

Postby Super A » Sat Mar 09, 2013 3:37 pm

I'm in the process of finishing (only been about a year "finishing") the Fast Hitch conversion on my Super A. All that is left is to hook up the helper spring. The problem is I can't get the holes to line up on the side of the torque tube. Now, I assume I am doing it right--I am inserting the "tab" on the back of the helper spring bracket into the little hole on the side of the torque tube, where the transmission connects to the torque tube. I tried tightening the spring as tight as it would go to shorten it so it would miss the touch control rockshaft and allow me to try to line the holes up but I couldn't get it short enough--and once I did I am not 100% sure the spring would work like it should without actually bending.

The only thing I can think of that might be the problem--assuming I am trying to attach it correctly-- is the tab on the helper spring bracket. The original had been broken and a new one welded in place. It looks just like the original, but I am beginning to wonder if maybe it's too long.

Any suggestions? Am I trying to hook it up right?

thanks,
Al

if the little tab has been broken an another has been welded on to it just cut or file it down until it works the way it should.
anything that makes is shorter. ill go look on my 140 just to see! it has one as well.

The new one bottoms out in the hole. The whole "arm" that runs from the helper spring bracket, beside the battery box to the back of the torque tube, had been broken off, they made a new one and welded it on. It looks "just right" but I am beginning to wonder.
