Super A Rear Toolbar

Postby LA Eric » Mon Jan 21, 2013 10:28 am

Just bought a Super A this weekend and wanted to show some pics of how I have it set up. I had a rear toolbar in my collection, so I decided to hook it up. The discs are actually from a 3pt Poplarville disc that we cut up and welded a 2" shaft to mount the discs to the bar. I also had a SA toolbar mount plow from my grandfather, so I got to try that out again after sitting for 30 + years.
All of the tractors down here have rear toolbars and disc cultivating attachments to make raised beds. That is the only way we plant. I have a couple more for the Super A and have 5 sets of original toolbars/discs for the cub and a lot of "retrofit" tools for toolbars. I'll try to take some pics as I use them and post.

On Saturday, I mounted a set of row hippers to the toolbar and made some rows for my spring garden. Below you can see some photos of how these are set up. This is how all the gardens are made in this region. Now I am ready to plant some potatoes :{_}:

Hi LA Eric,

The Super A on my uncle's farm in SW MIchigan had the same rear toolbar set up, and that was the only one I had ever seen until I saw a partially disassembled Super A in eastern Iowa in 2005. My uncle had a small two-bottom plow and a full-width disk that sit the system.

I am so glad to hear that that type of toolbar is common somewhere, because I have been trying to find one to put on my tractor for the last 4 years. Any chance you could help me locate the parts for that toolbar option for sale somewhere in your area?

Super A, I suspect you're right on for impliments at certain locations being more plentiful for tha A's. My 53 Super A cut grass at a grade school in Illinois from 1953 until I got it. When I lived in Illinois I never saw many A's, B's, or C's, but lots of H's and tons of M's. The crops there being mainly Corn and Soybeans and lots of acerage per farm maybe has something to do with that.

DElsner, I see them for sale from time to time, but not often. Most of these toolbars are still being used on AVs down here. I will let you know next time I come across one. Most people have kept their toolbar equipment from the old tractors and mount them to a 3 pt toolbar for their new tractors, so the tools are hard to get. The 1949 full line catalog from IH specifically lists these as " Louisiana Equipment" and some variations to these toolbar setups were listed as "Florida Equipment" as well.

Brendan, yes that is from Terry Foster which originally came from Mr. E. It has proven to be a very strong tractor! Hopefully over the winter it will turn into a Super AV. I have all the necessary parts for the conversion :{_}:

Here is some info on these setups courtesy of the Wisconsin Historical Society:

Hi LA Eric,

Thanks for your response. I'm really after the toolbar parts, more so than the implements that mount to it. It's all for nostalgia, rather than function. I'm trying to get my Super A set up just like the one I drove for years back on my Uncle's farm. Let me know if anything comes up for sale. Thanks!

I made a smaller version for my 128Cub Cadet.
I welded steel angle bed rails together that made just the right size for the square shank bracket to slide over.
Make then any length you want.
