carb problem?

Postby Little Red Cub » Fri Mar 25, 2011 7:23 am

I think something is wrong with the carb on my 100. Sometimes it runs really good then it will start sounding like it is starving for gas. You can pull the choke out a little and most of the time it will smooth out. I usually peck on the bowl of the carb and it will smooth out for a while. The guy I bought it from had put a new carb on it in the last couple of years. He said it was a singer carb but I think I can see Zenith on the side of it. Any info will be appreciated.

Sounds like you have some dirt floating around in the fuel system. A thorough cleaning of the tank and lines is in order and the carb should be dis-assembled and cleaned.

The Zenith has the high speed jet very low in the carburetor and any "gum" from the gasoline accumulates there. Any Zenith carburetor service must give special attention to that area.

Rick:

I would think that the Carb might be a Carter UT carb? If so then this might be of some use :

If it is a Zenith carb it should be marked on the Bottom. I had Problems with mine on my Super A and replaced it because I found out that the Bushings were shot, also I replaced the Glass Bowl, which wasn't venting properly with a Straight Fitting and a Shut off in the line. Been Running great ever since. Look at the Close ups of My carb in this video and you can compare them. I also did a follow up video showing the new set up. Good Luck, DanO'

Thanks for all the info. After seeing the pictures I am pretty sure it is a Zenith.
