I have read that in early IH production of these tractors that the engine serial numbers were matched with the chassis numbers. At some point in production (I think when they changed factories making theses tractors) IH forgot all effort of matching numbers. I would like to know approximately when that happened in terms of serial numbers.
OK, here's the story. I bought my A more than a year ago. It had a Monroe Easy Rider seat on it and the serial # tag ( on the original seat support) had been removed. I had been trying to make sense of the casting code dates to figure out what year the tractor was but could never make sense of any of them. I started tearing down the A yesterday for our next resto project and it wasn't until then that I discovered the engine serial number. I am wondering and hoping that this is also the chassis number, if indeed I have the original engine.
This ole girl is just a lost sheep with no identity and I'm trying to find it.
In case you're wondering, the engine number is 57760, it's a 1941.
Thanks for any help,
Steve
