140 color

Postby Mark In Richmond » Sun Dec 07, 2008 9:48 pm

I picked up a 140 from my brother the other day and was going to clean it up and sell it. It's in such good shape and runs so well I thought that I would restore it first then sell it for my brother. To get to my point, it's a 1963 model. When I removed the hood I saw the top part of the engine was painted yellow and as I cleaned off the dirt and grime I'm finding that the entire tractor was yellow except the radiator cowl white was white. Does anyone no if IH used yellow as primer or do you believe this may have been a factory color and was repainted red?

If so what was the color pattern, yellow tractor with white hood or all yellow with a white grill?

Thanks for and help.

IH did use sort of a pale yellowish primer then.

I am betting it was a yellow state tractor they made a lot of them in the early years of the 140 and has sence been painted red

I will also bet if you clean it up well enough you will find somewhere on it. What county, township, or state it was owned by. They always painted it on there some where.
