Farmall A

Postby Yogie » Sun Nov 30, 2008 5:40 pm

A friend came by the shop and traded me a older year Farmall A parts tractor for a set of used tires for his farm truck.
Dad and I picked it up yesterday and I spent the evening taking it all apart and enjoying myself at it.
It's funny to see some of the things these old farmer did to get by. This tractor was no different, of the several things I run across this was the best. This tractor has a mag and a starter but there's no sign that it's ever had a battery on it... Sooo this was the starter
Looks like a 1/2" pipe with a T and bolt battered on the end.

when money was tight on the farm you did what you had to in order to get by. Believe me, I have done my share of hillbilly engineering over the years.

Wouldn't have to worry about it un-screwing at the fitting. It worked so I guess it saved him a few bucks when he needed it. Grump
