Finally went red today!!!!!! My very first Farmall!!!!

I found a Farmall A near my house today. I looked it over really good too.

The good side;
There's no welds or cracks anywhere. It has the spline shaft and belt pulley on the rear. It has brand new 9.5 AG tires on the rear and a rebuilt engine. Of course it has the normal running seapage(oil leaks) that seem can be fixed with new seals on the finals. It sounds great.

The Bad side:
Now my only problem is with the oil filter, it leaks a little were it seals at the bottom.

I had to start somewhere with something red, i hope i did good for $1,500.
What do you guys think?

Get a list started, and post it in the classifieds. Re-did the neighbors A about 2 yrs ago, there were some left over parts, can't remember what exactly though. Some sheet metal, distributor (changed it back to a Mag), and some odds and ends. Pretty sure he still has them, make a list and post it and I'm sure I'm not the only that has access to some extra parts.

This one has the mag ign but the owner put an alternator and it isn't charging. Thats no problem i have a 12v alternator with the whole system wired up as a charging system for my camp thats extra now that i built back in 86. The alternator has twin vee belts so i may add hydraulics to that too. If i put a brushog i may run with the hydraulics(just a thought). If i use a 3,000psi hyd pump i can add a log splitter and a 3pt hitch too. I need a running work tractor with hydraulics. Its going to get restored with new paint and then put to work.... Every tractor i have right now earns its keep.

I'd like to keep it as close to orginal as i can but the changes i make will look good its not going to be butchered. With the hydraulics i'm a cnc machine builder and an excellent tuber too. The tubing has to look perfect too.

I believe he's in PA. Haven't used him myself as I only have a Cub and our sponsors have a wrap on all my parts needs for it.

JP Tractors has a lot of A parts and attachments. I'd say that you did all right. I love the A and Super A tractors. It is amazing how just a little more weight and hp than the Cub can make such a difference. The A is one powerful little machine.

Way to go on the A! I have a super and I love it! I use JP's for the A and C parts. They are great to deal with!

I get it delivered on monday and i can't wait to work on it.

Now i'm thinking maybe a super a, or a a cub or a "H" next or what ever comes along that i like. I'm going to buy them up before the prices get any higher here and park them until i get time to restore each one. I'm busy with my cub cadets right now.

A guy here across town has two farmalls and a allis chalmers B on his front lawn and it a neat picture as lawn ornaments.

Bad news again...its just my bad luck. I gave a deposit the other day and looked it over. It needed the alternator fixed and had an oil leak at the oil filter base. The oil filter housing was on an angle. Which i wasn't really afraid of fixing, maybe the wrong gasket. But after thinking about it the color of the motor oil was a light gray. That kind of told me it could has a possibility of a cracked block near the oil filter. I would of took it and replaced the engine if the price was lowered alot from $1,500. Not wanting to chance it I passed on it. It was supposed to be delivered tomorrow.

I just can't seem to go red?????

Sorry to hear that Bill! Maybe toss a lower number at him, with the knowledge that there may be some serious crackage. See if he bites.
