Farmall super a 1950. Still 6v system
I did a tune up on the tractor. I have great spark coming out of the coil.
Some how I messed up the rotor so that it doesn't hit at the corect time.
Please help this dummy.

Thanks

Fire escape - did you remove the distributor to do the tune-up? If so, you can easily re-time it.
Remove #1 sparkplug and crank the engine over till that cylinder is at TDC on compression. Then with the cap off of the rotor, note the position of the rotor. It should be pointing at the #1 tower position on the cap. Which is the top right tower as you look down at the cap. If it is not pointing to #1 then you must make it point at #1. The most common error is getting it 180 degrees out. Just remove the assembly and turn it a half turn and re-install. if it is other than 180 out you have the rotor shaft installed out of time. Just re-index it and re-install.

Yes I had the distributor body off to put new points in. I tried the 180 thing.
The main prob is I took off the center part of the distributor body and messed up the gear that the rotor fits on. Other than trial and error what is the best way to position it?

to reindex it I just turn the gear to point to 1 correct?

Thanks,
Got spark. saw and felt it. SHOCKING!!!!
It runs ok at idle, but under any load it spits ans sputters, almost backfiring. Something more to play with.

Well, perhaps not since the engine has been cranked.

Put the engine on the compression stroke #1 cylinder, TDC, with the timing pointer indicating TDC.

Reinstall the distributor with the rotor pointing to the #1 tower position on the distributor cap. It helps to mark the side of the distributor first with a crayon or something.

The distributor should be centered in the middle of the adjusting slot - bolts to hold the distributor in position.

Now static time the distributor. You may need to adjust - remove and replace the distributor once or twice - moving the rotor one gear tooth until the points open when the rotor is pointing exactly at the mark (#1 tower location) on the side of the distributor.

Find TDC on #1, take out #1 plug and ground it. Loosen the 2 bolts on the outer section of the distributer and turn one way or the other till you get a spark, tighten teh bolts and you are timed.
