Tightening a Super A fan belt

Postby Daniel H. » Thu Apr 05, 2007 8:30 pm

Any tips or tricks to tightening the fan belt? I know how to loosen the pulley and slide it up, but how to you keep the belt tight while you lock it down?

Don't loosen it so much that it just falls down under its own weight. Loosen it just so it'll barely move and then gently tap it up with a wooden dowel and a mallet. There should be enough friction that it'll just stay tight until you can get in there with a wrench to tighten it up.

Easiest with a helper. Have someone use a pinch bar from the right to gently pry the pulley up while you tighten the shaft from the left.
