Remove axel on final drive

I am trying to remove the axle on the left side of the final drive on me Super A so that I can change the oil seals.

I have the final drive off the tractor the pan off and the end cap off but I can't push the axle out of the drive. Is there something else that I need to unbolt? My A manual does not have a lot listed on the final drive.

Did you get the seal retainer on the outside end of the axle.

Did you remove the brake drum? The brake drum comes off and then you bump the inner end of the axle to push it out of the final drive housing. The outside bearing cover must be off.

The brake drum sits on the differential shaft. Does that need to come out to have the axle (the axle is what the tire bolts to) come out???

I am not sure what the seal retainer is. The seals at the end of the axle came out with the end cap. I can see the bearings and the end of the axle

Does this axle not need to be pressed off like the cubs?

Seems like i just used a broken hammer handle on the end of the shaft and a 4 lb hammer to knock mine loose.

Sorry, I mis-read your post. Bump the axle out from the inside. Keep track of the spacers and watch the bull gears, they are heavy when they turn loose. I did not have to press mine out. Also pay attention to which side of the bull gear goes in.

I feel sure the correct way would be to press it out but being as i was rased on a farm and we improvised now and then aai would use a piece of oak or brass and hit it with a hammer thats how I take mine apart
Have done quite a few and had good luck.
