Rear lamp mounts… today’s project

Postby Lt.Mike » Tue Jan 02, 2024 6:17 pm

As I mentioned in prior posts I’m preparing for a snowy winter and squaring away my SA for plowing.
Todays project was to make brackets to hold the rear lamps I picked up for it. As always I’m using spare and scrap metal I store in the corner of my barn.
Here’s a couple pics…

I bolted the 2 pieces together so they’d be identical in they’re shaped as I ground them round.

Being 1/4” flat steel they didn’t want to bend even when heated with a torch. I ended up using a cutoff wheel to cut 3/4 way thru the bar, hammering it to the angle I wanted then welding a bead down the cut.
When my weld and helmet cooperate I can lay down some decent welds ;)
I love it when the welds are nice enough to paint over without grinding.

I didn’t show the process but I added 1/2” box tubing tacked up to the underside of the mounts to keep the wiring away from the tires.
They will bolt up to the tire side of the fenders and reach up and over the tires. They will be a little rearward of the seats centerline. I’ll run the wire thru a a hole in the fender with a rubber grommet.

Ran out of daylight and it’s getting pretty cold out so I’ll wait until tomorrow to paint. These are small enough to spray outside on an hook and carry inside to dry.

Thank you !
My daughter was off work today so I didn’t get much done on it but I did get them located on the tractor and hung them to get an idea of how they’ll look. Now I'm in the process of spraying them outside under the flood light and hanging them in the basement to dry between coats. Winters a real pain in the butt for trying to get stuff done. Between the cold and sun setting at 4:30 it’s difficult.

Mike, Looking good! If I remember correctly you have a concern with road traffic when plowing your driveway. Those lights should significantly improve your visibility to traffic.

Those look awesome Mike!! With all the preparation you've put into improving the Super A's snow plowing abilities, it'll probably never snow this year!!

Ok finished it off for this seasons use. I ended up repairing the magnetic mount flasher and leaving the lamps wired to the head lamp switch. I already have ideas on how to better route the wires but this will work for now.
Gotta say, I’m cold ! :coffee: Time to warm up.

Thank you, as always when I fabricate something I try to make it look like it could’ve been a factory piece. Not that its all hard with most of what the factory made with angle iron.
If I can follow thru on my plan to strip and repaint the rest of the tractor in the spring It’ll all come together.
I’d like to make it as nice as Dale has with hers.
As far as the blade and angling it I owe it to you Rick and Rick Prentice going off what you two have done with yours and take example from them.
