Super A Snowplow mount

Postby 49willard » Mon Dec 18, 2023 7:31 am

I have a why question.
Looking at the large U shaped mount of the snowplow mount hanging vertically there is a short piece on the left side of the tractor when mounted with 2 bolts thru it to make a full U. On the parts diagram/listing for the A60 snowplow it is #11, 650 348 R1. In my case a PO welded it to part #6, 650 347 R91 rather than bolting it. Any idea why \Farmall made the U in 2 pieces and had holes for adjustability?
After snowplow season I will grind out the welds and return it to how Farmall built it.

As an aside, I found this picture of an old, 2017, for sale posting at a price of $300. That was a good price I think both then and now. I paid a bit more for my tractor because it had the snowplow. In fact I would not have bought it without the snowplow. As I understand it the A60 is quite a bit harder to find than an A54.

Note: Not my plow

I've had the same question since I was about 12 years old. Still haven't seen an answer.

Jim,
Was the A60 designed to be used with other Farmall tractors of the era?

Not that I am aware of, just the A and Super A.

Not sure if I follow you but I have 3 of these setups and I don’t see anything out of the ordinary in you pic aside from the additional bracing to the frame. That was commonplace because if you use the plow as intended the frame will bend.

The A60 was followed with a version that had a pressure spring rod assembly that replaced the two bars that connect the lift arm to the blade frame. It’s the same style used on the later Cub assemblies only bigger. This plow can be used on the “A” with a hand lift and is used on the 100, 130, and 140 tractors with the same hardware that the Super A uses.
