Farmall A snow plow options?

I use a winch to raise and lower a large truck blade on another tractor and it works well....the remote is convenient. used an old Super C frame...Pics from when I was putting it together

I pulled out the pulley and made a quick bracket to mount the winch up front. It slides into the 2” mount up front so I can quick attach it. Tested it with a battery charger and it works better than I thought. I have to mount a loop offset on the plow frame keeping everything clear when I hand crank to start the tractor. I’ll have to convert to a 12v system for the winch as it’s now 6v. Still lots to do before the weather turns to …..

maybe weld a tray onto that winch bracketry and put a 12v battery there and trickle charge it after each storm....maybe cheaper than the conversion unless you don't have the 12v battery

I had thought about putting a 12v deep cycle cycle battery under the seat or on the fabbed frame and doing as you suggest but am not sure how long the charge would last. I probably have to get a new battery anyways and I’m not sure if my existing 6v charging system works. I’ve never had the lighting system working but would obviously want to get it operable for safety reasons. If I have to rework a lot of it I might as well go to 12v.

I have always had more than enough charge to do 3 driveways. 12v is better for additional cheaper lights.

3 driveways charge sounds promising, how long of a driveway and how large is the battery, group number etc?

It is a traveler suitcase battery....crappy CCA's. When you think about it the winch is only moving the cable a foot or so and then easier going down. The plow doesn't go up and down that often when you think about it. I know it only takes a few hours of trickle to top it off. I have pulled 100 autumn olive trees on one mission with the same set up mounted on the rear logging blade and had plenty of juice

So today I broke down my framing to touch up some of my Ugly welds and figured I’d post pics of the pieces in the unassembled state. When searching people’s home brewed farmall A plow set ups there wasn’t a lot of clear pictures as to how it was done. I hope my pics clarify what I decided to do with what I have. The main square tube frame and brackets is from 2”x 3/16” wall square tube. The bracket pieces that slid inside the 2” tube and the bolster are 1-1/2”x 3/16” wall. The flat plate that bolts to the bell housing is 1/2”x6” . The ears for the plow attachment is 5/8”x3” and plan to put some spacers in there as I made them wide for future accessories.

Looks pretty solid and logical. To get a fit can create an erector set type gizmo,....but if they work and you aren't shoveling it is a win. Check out the set up on my super C factory plow...talk about erector set
