Super A-1 steering wheel question

Postby stellafarmall » Thu Mar 25, 2021 8:41 pm

It’s me again! After a game of -“find all the hidden grease fittings” on this tractor and After a through greasing last night I noticed this one under the sterling wheel. There is a little play in it and it looks like to me there should be a bushing of some kind in there. Is it missing something or should I grease it and be done cause it’s supposed to be like that?
Thanks again in advance for your help!

They do not have bushings. It is overly worn.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

If you look at it, you'll notice it's worn oblong, pretty much all the wear is at the bottom. It's hard to bush an oblong hole unless it's machined round, first.

You need one of these: https://www.steinertractor.com/IHS964-S ... rt-Knuckle
Note: they look like they are cast. The original is some sort of softer material, so it may pay to get one from caseIH. Messicks.com and several other dealers offer online parts shopping.

Hi,
It may not be easy to remove the steering wheel to replace the part, sometimes the steering wheels get rusted on the shaft.
You may need a puller to remove the steering wheel. :)

removing the steering wheel is one of those jobs that takes a lot longer than it should.
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!
