I have a new to me 140. When I got it the fuel strainer was there on the fuel line but not screwed into the tank. The more I look that the thread and the boss the more I look like it may have be too thin to repair and was leaking which is why is was removed.
Is there a repair to the boss? The tank looks good inside. I have not removed it yet.

Re: tank repair - fuel strainer fitting
I took the tank off. I was able to chase the threads and It looked better once I could get a good look at it.
FYI i did find these https://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/126/77/ Straight Adapters with Extension for Flat Tanks to drill out the the old fitting and weld this in.
