Zenith Carb kit for a 140

Postby inairam » Mon Jun 08, 2020 5:00 pm

I have a new to me 1969 140 and I am looking for a carb kit for a zenith. There is no tag.

I know which one to get for a cub but the 140 is new territory for me. I think it will need the works including the float.

Don, I like Mcdonald Carb but I find their website hard work with if you do not already know exactly what you want.

They even kinda hide the phone number. it was not easy to find. I called a few times this morning and ended emailing. They did get back with some suggestions.

Hi, I think my zenith carb for my 140 is beyond rebuilding. All of the replacement iv'e seen are in the $300 range, do you guys know of any other replacement carbs that are not as expensive. thanks

What makes you say it is beyond rebuilding? "$300 range" leaves lots of room for rebuilding.

Bill is right. The kits do go for about $20-$55 depending on how complete they are. Get a can of carb/parts cleaners ($30 but you can keep reusing it to clean small parts) that comes in a paint can and it has a little basket. soak the carb and do a rebuild. it is worth a try.

I did buy one of the carbs because I wanted a backup carb for my 130 and 140. It is really nice and it runs great. Mine has an adjustable jet. It did not come with studs. So when I needed my back up carb ( gas overflowing out of the air clean bowl) I was dead in the water. I opened the box that I had for 6 months no studs. I could not mount it I did not have any studs. I did make them and did get some on my next order from Stiener but I was Pxxxxied to spend that much and not get studs.

I’m guessing that you’re talking about Berryman’s Chem-Dip, or something similar. One word of warning. The original Zenith carbs have some sort of finish treatment on the castings. Chem-Dip will remove that finish if left to soak too long.

I did soak it in Beryman's for a few days and put a a lot of parts in the sonic cleaner to finish it off. The problem is it was so corroded inside that one of the jets broke off inside and iv'e tried everything to get it out to no avail.
