Farmall Fan Hub Spindle

Postby Stanton » Sun Dec 22, 2019 10:01 am

This is a general enough question to break it out into its own thread.

While I was putting my disassembled fan hub back together, I noticed three grooves in the spindle with a single corresponding groove in the hub casting:

Looked at the Cub spindle and saw it had three grooves as well:

Question: Is there supposed to be an O-ring in one of the spindle grooves that correspond to the single groove in the casting?

The Parts Book for both the Farmall A and the Cub do not show one, so I'm thinking it's not required. But just want to be sure before I reassemble.

What are your thoughts and experience with this?

Hmmm, it would certainly make sense, because in my experience, those fans do tend to leak oil out the rear.
