I always assumed it was a stiffener because the screws had to be offset towards one end.

That was the conclusion Bob and I came to, which is why the flat one he made is a fair bit thicker than the original one. In any case, there was nothing inside that required added clearance, and it worked great!

I want to thank you for taking us along on the journey Dale. I know I learned some things by riding along. Congrats, I never had a doubt that you would prevail and this old tractor would live again!
