Put the hood back on

Postby Super A » Mon Sep 02, 2019 12:11 am

Been tinkering with this '50 Super A since the first of the year. When I got it the engine was stuck, apparently the head gasket blew and they parked it under a shed and left it, antifreeze in the cylinders stuck it.

Long story short, new sleeves and pistons, polished crank and installed new bearings. My students did the disassembly and had the engine ready to go back into the tractor when school got out for the summer. They also disassembled the valve train and lapped all the valves. Got it running a couple weeks ago, there's a few small things left to do but it runs so far like a top!

There are zillions of Cubs, Super As, 140s, etc. here in eastern NC. The vast majority of them have been repainted at least once. This one is original. It's a '50 that falls in the white demo range, but it's red except for the inside, bottom, and the front and back of the battery box, which is white! It's also unusual because it has McCormick-Deering Farmall decals.

The patina is so nice, I don't plan to paint this one.

Enjoy,
Al

One More.....'50 models didn't have Touch Control temp. gauges. I really like this one, it's in wonderful shape. It'll probably find its way onto my '54 Super A-1 eventually......

Looks great, love that original look better than a repaint.

More and more, I’m liking the old look as much as the new. Al, think leaving this one original is the best thing to do.

Al my wife bought me what we were told is a 54 Super A (the original seat was replaced with a Monroe Seat and the PO passed and no one knows where the original seat with the serial plate is) and it also has the McCormick-Deering Farmall decals. I wish I could find a set of these decals, but it looks like I will have to buy 2 different sets to replace what I have if I decide to paint mine.

Maple Hunter should have them.

I want to try spraying it down with something like Fluid Film to give it some "shine." But other than that, it'll be about all I do to it cosmetically.

They do Al but to match up the Super A decal like we both have it would require the purchase of 2 different sets. When I am ready I will contact them to see if they can put one set together that has the McCormick-Deering Decals with the proper Super A decals.

When I was ready to put the decals on my '48 SA, I WAS SURE it was supposed to have tbe McCormick Deering decal, but had already bought the set which had just McCormick. I called Maple Hunter, who had supplied the set, and they sent the correct one. I know it wasn't offered in the kit, and not sure how much extra I paid. I bet if you asked, they would swap them out in the kit.

I was pretty sure they had a set the McCormick-Dering with the ribbon Super A, but I may be mistaken.
