Good stuff.
I always found that I spent more time thinking about how daunting these tasks will be.
Until the wrench was actually in my hand and I started turning it, then it became easy, and I would have to declare that I was overthinking. Seems to be a condition I have.
Again, my advice is to take lots of pictures, catalog all your parts in zip lock bags etc.
Good luck.

Well today the tractor won. Had it jacked up, cherry picker on the right wheel. removed all 6 bolts. The darn wheel would not budge. sprayed area with blaster. Now the tractor is sitting there laughing at me. Tuesday will try again.

Age factor has probably got it locked to the axle. Try a BIG hammer (place a board on the tire/rim so you don't bend/break anything) and hit it HARD!!!

That's what I was going to suggest. Just be careful...when that puppy breaks loose, make sure your cherry picker has a good hold on it!

Ok, so wheel will still not budge, all bolts out hit 2x4 with sledge hammer. Nothing. I was able to get the wheel off the hub. I was thinking to tear down the final drive to get the shaft to pull out of final. Any thoughts.

Hi Dave,
Now that the wheel is off the hub, you should only have to unbolt where the shaft is connected to the tranny. Should slide right out.
Can you post a photo of where you are at

Started working on the left side. got the wheel off the hub, started loosening the bolts to remove the final drive. Got the top 4 loose but the first bottom one rounded off. so I quit for today.

Wow, amazing how those hubs are frozen on there. Extra weight to deal with but you got the one side off. Progress for sure.

If you go in this deep, new seals and bearings won't hurt, plus a good time for new brake bands.

Progress... Got the left final off. Removed PTO, and shifter. While I am still satisfied with my accomplishment I called it a day.

Question does the transmission slide off just like the final drives?

Yes. Should have a couple dowel pins as well for alignment, may be tight coming off.

I recommend safety wiring the clutch pedal in the up position before you pull the trans. If nobody touches the clutch, the friction disc will stay put and everything will go back together happily. If someone bumps the clutch pedal or messes with it, the disc can fall out of alignment and cause you a new alignment headache. Also make sure you have lots of room behind the tractor to slide the trans and shaft rearward as a unit. It's no fun to get to that stage and realize you have to move the tractor ahead a couple of feet to clear.
