Hi Guys,
Well, I was wondering why the Porch wiring harness was so much more than the Brillman. Still not sure what the answer is, but I'm about to install my Brillman harness and I'm going to document the differences between it and the original IH harness here. Then when someone buys a Porch harness they can compare the differences I note on the Brillman to their harness and maybe we can figure out why the cost difference. I took off all the wiring clips and clamps from the tractor tonight and I'll blast, re-dip in rubber and then paint red tonight and tomorrow. While removing them I did find 2 differences already with regards to the Brillman harness. I'll get some pics up later, but right off the bat the braiding on the Brillman is black and white stripped and the original is black. Not a real issue as I'm going to spray the whole harness red, but a difference none the less. Also, the connector that plugs into each headlight is wrong, meaning not the same shape. I'm going to see if I can pop the terminals out of the Brillman and re-use the original connectors. Otherwise I'm calling Brillman to see if they still have the original connectors because what's on their harness looks a bit stupid (IMHO). Will have more tomorrow when I pull the original harness off and directly compare end to end.
regards,
bob

Re: IH 140 Brillman Harness Notes
if they have the wrong connectors it probably is for the wrong year, early 6 volt wiring harness is different than a later 12 volt harness as they used different lights, early harness had a cloth cover and the later 12 volt used the black woven plastic style

Re: IH 140 Brillman Harness Notes
Hi tst,
Well..........I called Brillman and spoke to a tech. He told me the round black plastic button connectors on my headlights have been out of production for 20 years so I'm shit out of luck there. The "L" shaped connectors on the new harness will fit my headlights but just look wrong. I think I can pop out the terminals from my headlight connectors and from the new harness and re-use my round connectors. As for the braid, he said IH bought harnesses from a variety of vendors back in the day and mine is made to the IH print. So although the braiding is black and white cloth and not the black plastic on my original harness he says it's still correct. I plan to spray my harness red, so the braid color isn't a show-stopper, but it is a bummer.
You can take the Tech's remarks any way you want, but I'm going to list these two things as valid differences. There's a correct Porch harness on eBay right now for my SN tractor, and although there is only one pic of the harness, you can see the braiding is the same black plastic as on my original harness. I can't see the headlight connectors in the pic, but will call them to see if they still supply the correct connectors. So for now it's Porch 1......Brillman 0. To be continued.................

Is the connector you're looking for the same as was used on the late Int. Cubs?

Re: IH 140 Brillman Harness Notes
It is pretty easy to get the terminals out of the housings (with no damage). You just need to depress a tang to get each one to release. I've used a small thin screwdriver or sometimes cut a small strip of metal to do it. There is a special tool, which I don't have but should have bought years ago. If you've never worked with them, here is a decent explanation with pictures. Just scroll down to Packard 56.

By the way, the original part number is 899 385 R1. Here is an earlier discussion of this part.

Thanks Jim,
They did pop right out with a small screwdriver.

Update........the black and white striped cloth woven braid on the harness takes paint real well, but you can't cover up the stripes completely no matter how much paint you put on. I'm talking spray can, not with a gun. Will post pics later, got to run to work now.
