Brillman vs Porch wiring harnesses....

Postby w30bob » Tue Oct 23, 2018 12:01 pm

Hi Guys,

Ok, I looked online for a new wiring harness for my 140 and it seems all the vendors are either selling the harnesses from Porch or from Brillman. What I don't understand is why the Porch harnesses are so much more expensive than the same harnesses from Brillman. From the pics of both they look identical. I'm not including any battery or starter cables, just everything else, and the Porch is around $300 and the Brillman $165 for the same kit. The other vendors add an a little bit of profit to those numbers, but you can tell there are two camps to chose from. So what am I missing here? I've read good things about both companies, so that's not it........what makes the Porch so expensive? I'd like to hear from anyone who has held/touched/bought both brands of harness, even if it's not for the 140. I just want to understand the differences between them and I know either would work. Don't want to start a flame job on either company.........I'm sure they both make fine products.

thanks,
bob

I know nothing about Porch, I have first hand experience with Brillman. Used to see John at a large show when he was small. Have a Brillman in a bag waiting to go on our 140, very high quality. $175 with shipping.

I've purchased at least 6 wiring harnesses from Brillman. Every one of them were accurate and professionally made. I really don't see how the other brand could be that much better to justify the increased cost when Brillmans are as close as you can get to perfect. They also come with a legend for where each wire goes. I wouldn't buy a harness from anyone else.

Depending on serial number, Porch Electric sells the main harness from $100 - $186 for a 140. Check their website and shop the catalog.

Hi Guys,

Thanks. Denny.....I did that for my specific SN range. The Brillman kit, which includes all the other harnesses except the battery and starter cables (the big wires) costs $165. The Porch main harness is $110 as you said, but when you add up all the other harnesses (one is a single wire for $25, the tail lamp harness is $50, etc, etc) it climbs way past $165. So I'm just wondering why. At this point, since everyone is happy with the Brillman, I'll just order that one.

thanks,
bob

+1 for Brillman. I spend lots of green with The Brillman Co. every year, and they are easy to resolve problems with if something goes wrong.

Hi Guys,

I ordered the whole shooting match from Brillman today. They didn't have the main harness in stock, so they're making it. Said it should take about a week. I'd still like to know why the Porch stuff is so much more. I'll hold judgement until I see what Brillman sends. Maybe the Porch pricing is the difference between EXACT and very, very close to original. There's got to be a reason.

thanks,
bob

I live about 40 miles from Brillman and have been to his business several times, John is a great person to buy from and a ver pleasant person ,everything that I have purchased has been of excellent quality, in no way am I running down the other supplier, I just have not dealt with them.

Got mine from Porch (several years ago) was wrong harness - Porch brought the correct harness down and helped install it!! They are about 40 mi.away. Was not aware of Brillman at that time but Porch was certainly easy to deal with! JM2CW! Dusty B

It’s still in my toolbox, haven’t gotten around to installing it yet.

I ordered one from Brillman for my SA about 6 years ago, and it went on fairly easily. They include some pretty clear instructions.
