Early A Drawbar Question

Postby w30bob » Fri Sep 21, 2018 9:46 am

Hi Guys,

Another of those "is it correct" questions again. I found some good pics of a restored '39 Farmall A online and I'm comparing it to my '39 to see if anything is different between the two. I want mine as accurate as possible and so far so good. One difference I do see is in regards to the drawbar. Look at the pic below. The one in the pic has metal rods, one on each side, that go thru a hole in drawbar a few inches from where it mounts to the final drive, up at a 45 degree angle, and then make a 90 and go thru hole in the final drive in the upper rear corner. A brace on each side of sorts. My drawbar doesn't have those two holes in the drawbar for the rods to pass thru and it's not shown like this in the parts manual. Is a feature of maybe real early A drawbars.......or maybe later ones..........or is it a bubba mod?

thanks,
bob

Owner added. Note that drawbar also has a welded repair on each side.

I don't have an A, but did they not have a drawbar bracket the draw fastened to. Maybe just picture but it looks like the draw bar is fastened directly to the finals.

Yes, they did not have a separate bracket. Interestingly enough, they were going to change to the quick-mount style in 1943. But with WWII, Farmall A production was shut down that year. The change didn't get made until the Super A.
